Gothenburg is home to both heavy-weight art institutions and all-new galleries for contemporary art. It’s hard to believe that Konstepidemin is located as centrally as it is. With its low- rise wooden and brick buildings, verandas and gravel paths, it feels more like a tiny village than anything else. The venue owes its name, whichmeans “art epidemic”, to the buildings’ original use as an isolation hospi- tal for treating contagious diseases from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century.
