You will be welcomed to a charming city with vibrant street life, an abundance of cafés, attractive restaurants and inviting shops. Its location by Lake Vänern, with its stunning archipelago, makes it a particularly vibrant city, and the rural communities round about are also bustling with life and have a wealth of cultural history. For sports enthusiasts, there are a variety of events every year, at both elite and noncompetitive level, to watch or participate in. Lidköping is a small-town idyll characterised by a feeling of closeness, where everything is perfect in size and most things are accessible on foot. The obvious starting point for both visitors and residents is Nya stadens torg, the square constructed by Count Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie in the 1670s. On Wednesdays and Saturdays local residents and visitors are attracted to the lively market stalls. The square is also home to the characteristic Old Town Hall (Gamla Rådhuset), which is also the symbol of the city and today houses a bakery and the tourist information office. Stadsträdgården (city park) offers inspiring flower beds and garden installations, while not far away is the modern city library, incorporating both a café and an art gallery. Just a short stroll to the east across the river Lidan is the old town, dating back to the Middle Ages. Here, you can wander among the pictur- esque buildings, housing craftspeople, artists, cafés and a printing museum. Lidköping is a friendly place with the diversity of a big city but in a small and convenient format. But what really makes Lidköping special is the fact that local residents are so enthusiastic and devoted to their city and their municipality. Welcome! Auf Gartenfreunde warten im Stadtpark inspir- ierende Pflanzen- und Gartenarrangements. Einen Katzen- sprung entfernt befindet sich die moderne Stadtbibliothek, in der auch ein Café und eine Kunsthalle untergebracht sind. Etwas weiter im Osten, auf der anderen Seite des Flusses Lidan, liegt die Altstadt mit ihrem mittelalterlichen Flair. Die malerischen Häuschen beherbergen heute Handwerker, Künstler, Cafés und ein Buchdruckmuseum. Lidköping – klein, aber oho! Hier finden Sie die Vielfalt der Großstadt im Taschenformat.
