6 • www.lackokinnekulle.se LÄCKÖ CASTLE IS a magnificent baroque palace standing on a rocky peninsula in Lake Vänern, but parts of the building are much older. The Bishop of Skara laid the foundations of the castle as early as 1298. The castle was confiscated from the church and taken over by the crown in 1527. Field marshal Jacob Pontusson De la Gardie was granted the property in 1615. De la Gardie embarked on an extensive building spree, including the third floor of the keep. His son Magnus Gabriel was only 30 when took over the castle. In 1654 he initiated immense construction projects at Läckö, including the kitchen wing, the castle chapel and a fourth floor. Today you’ll find here exhibitions, a walled garden, courtyard opera, children’s theatre and much more. SCHLOSS LÄCKÖ IST als sagenumwobe- nes De la Gardie-Schloss berühmt. Das am Ufer des Vänersees gelegene Schloss Läckö geht bis auf das Mittelalter zurück. Bereits im Jahre 1298 legte hier der Bischof von Ska- ra den Grundstein zu einer befestigten Burg. Lange spielte das Schloss eine unbedeu- tende Rolle; erst als der Feldherr Jacob De la Gardie im Jahre 1615 Läckö als Darlehen übernahm, gewann es wieder an Bedeu- tung. Magnus Gabriel, sein Sohn, übernahm das Schloss im Alter von 30 Jahren. 1654 wurden auf Läckö große Umbauarbeiten begonnen; in der Vorburg entstanden neue Räume, in der Hauptburg wurde eine vierte Etage errichtet. Auch die Schlosskirche geht auf Magnus Gabriel zurück. Heute gibt es hier Austellungen, Garten, Opernvorstellung und mehr.
