The obvious starting point for visitors and locals alike is Nya stadens torg, the square laid out by Count Magnus Gabriel de la Gardie in the 1670s. The square is the location of the iconic Old Town Hall, the symbol of the town, today home to the tourist information centre and a café. The old town is the other side of the river Lidan. This was the site of a trading centre in the Middle Ages, and gained town privileges as early as 1446. In the mid-nineteenth century the area burned down in a fire but some buildings around Limtorget survived and are still standing today. Stadsträdgården was once allotments for the inhabitants of Lidköping. Today it’s an inspiring garden to feed your soul and your interest in gardens. The beautifully designed flower beds and garden installations change each year. With Lake Vänern on the door- step, there’s swimming and all the opportu- nities the lake has to offer not far from the centre of town. Den Mittel- punkt der Stadt bildet der Platz Nya stadens torg, der bereits um 1670 durch den Grafen Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie angelegt wur- de. Außerdem steht hier das alte Rathaus, das Wahrzeichen der Stadt, in dem heute die Touristeninformation und eine Konditorei untergebracht sind. Auf der anderen Seite des Flusses Lidan liegt die Altstadt. Schon im Mittelalter befand sich hier ein Handels- platz und bereits 1446 wurde das Stadtrecht verliehen. Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts kam es hier zu einem Brand, aber einige Be- reiche rund um den Platz Limtorget blieben verschont und sind noch heute erhalten. Der Stadtpark stellte für die Einwohner von Lidköping einst Beetparzellen bereit. Heute können Sie sich hier seelisch wie gärtnerisch inspirieren lassen. Die kunstvollen Pflan- zungen und Gartenanlagen werden jedes Jahr neu gestaltet. Der Vänern unweit des Stadtzentrums lädt zum Baden und zu tollen Freizeitaktivitäten ein.
