LÄCKÖ CASTLE is a magnificent baroque palace standing on a rocky peninsula in Lake Vänern, but parts of the building are much older. The Bishop of Skara laid the foundations of the castle as early as 1298. The castle was confiscated from the church and taken over by the crown in 1527. It was granted to Count Jacob De la Gardie in 1615 for services to the nation. His son Magnus Gabriel was only 30 when he took over the title and estates. He began an extensive extension of the castle, and it is essentially Magnus Gabriel’s palace we see today. Here you’ll find exhibitions, a walled garden, courtyard opera and much more. Read more at: www.lackoslott.se SCHLOSS LÄCKÖ ist als sagenum- wobenes De la Gardie-Schloss berühmt. Das am Ufer des Vänersees gelegene Schloss Läckö geht bis auf das Mittelalter zurück. Bereits im Jahre 1298 legte hier der Bischof von Skara den Grundstein zu einer befestigten Burg. Lange spielte Schloss Läckö eine unbedeutende Rolle; erst als der Feld- herr Jacob De la Gardie im Jahre 1615 Läckö als Darlehen übernahm, gewann es wieder an Bedeutung.
