One can take a train to Kinnekulle, disembark
at Österäng, Forshem, Hällekis, Råbäck, Trol-
men, Blomberg or Källby stations. This pictur-
esque railway runs from Hallsberg to Herrljun-
ga and further on to Stockholm or Göteborg.

A race track built in
1969
on slag heaps left by
shale oil production during the
WWII
. Thereaf-
ter, a track enabling year round ice driving was
opened. Annual events include; ten track races,
demolition derbies, rallycross events as well as
fairs and exhibitions.

Built in the late
1700
s as a district
courthouse is a single-story stone building
with a mansard slate roof. The building was
used as a courthouse until
1904
. There are two
residential wings one of which was an old inn.
Presently one of the wings is a hostel.

(58-c6)
The large stone is pagan and depicts a man
with horns and feathers. This sandstone sculp-
ture was placed here by Magnus Gabriel De la
Gardie in the
1600
s. The other has a large cross.
These stones symbolize the struggle between
paganism and Christianity in the
11
th century.

lasses grotta

Lasse of the Mountain’s cave is one of Kin-
nekulle’s oddest sights. It was home to Swe-
den’s last caveman – the hunter Lars Eriksson.
Lars lived here near Husaby with his wife Inga
for almost
30
years. The cave once completely
destroyed by Lasse's enemies has been restored.

The origination and meaning of these stones
is very controversial. One theory is that they
are special gravestones, but more recently it
has been theorized that they were sacred art
brought over by the Vikings who converted
while serving in the Byzantine Empire in the

lundsbrunn

Lundsbrunn's picturesque spa town dating from
1724
. Once a hospital and poor house establish
by Count Gustaf Piper in memory of his wife. The
main building was built in
1817
. This facility is
complete with a restaurant, conference rooms,

guest beds, spa and a

hole golf course.

railway to skara

This steam locomotive and carriages date from
the days of narrow-gauge railways in the first
half of the
20
th century. In summer one can
take the train from Lundsbrunn to Skara and expe-
rience the sound of the rails and the evocative scent of
coal smoke.

posseska skolan

Opportunity for children to learn to read and
write was rare in the early
1800
s. ­Louise Posse of
Hellekis, somewhat ahead of her time founded
the Posseska school ten years before compulsory
schooling in Sweden was mandated by law.

An extensive collection of old ­machinery, includ-
ing steam and combustion engines veteran
tractors and equipment. The machinery was
manufactured between
1860
and
1950
. Products
relating to veteran tractors, engines are sold here,
including books, models and signs.

Lime was previously transported here by carriage
via the old road to the harbour, where it was later
shipped. Råbäck's lime pit, burned lime from the
mid-
1800
s until
1958
. Among other things, the
lime was used to build some of the churches in
­Kinnekulle.

The site of old stone works from the
1800
s with
its stockpiles and housing for workers. Opera-
tion began in the late
1930
s. The facility closed
in
1970
. Only the frame saw remains in the new
shop but the old shop is well preserved.

sigrid storråda

This Viking ship is a replica of the Norwegian
Gokstad ship from the
900
s. According to legend,
Sigrid Storråda was a rich and powerful woman
and mother to Olof Skötkonung. The ship is

m long and decorated with a gilt dragon head
designed by Martin Hansson of Husaby.

This quarry has
40
m of exposed orthoceratite
limestone, with its
400
million year old fossils.
The red stone at the bottom was quarried for
cement production and lime burning. The other
layers are greywacke or soapstone, red stone or
liver-colored stone.

tredingstenarna

Legend holds this area was a Viking ­settlement
and the people who lived here are buried in
graves by the stones known as Tredingsstenarna.
It is said the largest stone is Lage Posse’s grave-
stone, the second-largest is Anna Posse’s. The
engraving on the third stone is worn.

identification. For example Läckö Slott is located on map page
